From 5–9 June 2026, an eight-member Executive Committee from Trinity Church PJ Methodist Women — comprising Dr Mary Bien (MW President), Pastor Ching Li (MW Spiritual Leader), Theresa Yip, Jennifer Chang, Goh Hooi Yin, Carol Chew, Suzanne Tan, and Anne Abraham — embarked on a mission trip to Sabah following a gracious invitation from the Missions Ministry.
Seeking to understand local spiritual and socioeconomic needs, the team—mostly first-time mission workers—engaged with youth, visited a seminary, and worshipped with local congregations to discern how to support these communities through prayer, fellowship, and shared resources.
The Main Engagements:
- Kota Belud: Spent time with the Alpha & Omega Youth
- Melangkap: Visited the Borneo Theological Seminary Melangkap (BTSM)
- Bundu Tuhan: Joined the SIB Bundu Tuhan Church congregation for worship
- Papar: Toured the historic town to better appreciate the region’s history and ongoing local ministry efforts
Each visit offered valuable insights into the faith of the local communities, while deepening the team’s understanding of the opportunities for partnership in ministry.
Personal Reflections on the Trip
Pastor Ching Li
Returning with four Kalung Pinakol instead of one beautifully symbolizes how deeply I was blessed by the warm fellowship and simple worship in Sabah. Witnessing God’s work among the passionate communities was an immense privilege. This journey reminded me of the five loaves and two fishes, as well as the widow’s two copper coins—proving that God multiplies our offering abundantly to spread His love and glorify His name.
Suzanne Tan
This mission trip brought far greater blessings into my life than I ever anticipated, leaving a lasting impression on my heart. I was deeply moved by our local brothers and sisters, who carry an unyielding spirit and remarkable courage to spread the Gospel despite serving in humble, challenging conditions. Their sincerity and obedience made it clear that true devotion does not depend on comfort or convenience, but on a deep, genuine relationship with God.
Theresa Yip
This journey granted me profound insight into the communities, whose hospitality was reflected in the way generations came together to warmly greet us. I saw firsthand how food acts as a powerful ministry tool among them—breaking language barriers and fostering a sense of belonging. Together, we succeeded in fostering cross-cultural understanding of how we could support the Alpha & Omega youth and empower the Methodist Women.
Goh Hooi Yin
It was a humbling experience for me to observe the commitment of Jenvera, the main lecturer at BTSM, alongside her small team as they equip students in foundational theological studies. I was deeply inspired to see that every single member of the Alpha & Omega youth carries a fervent desire to make God known and glorify Him. Across our journey, everyone we met demonstrated an overwhelming, great love for our Lord. All glory to God!
