15th World Assembly, Auckland New Zealand

The 15th World Assembly of the World Federation of Methodist and Uniting Church Women was held from 25th to 29th August 2026 at the Due Drop Events Centre, Auckland, New Zealand. Women leaders, delegates, observers and guests from Methodist churches throughout the world gathered in fellowship, worship and service to celebrate their unity in Christ and their commitment to Christian witness.   Mrs Mary Devadason, EAA President, Mrs Shanty Sekhar, Mrs Vinsala Jesudass and Ms Hannah Basil, the Helen Kim Scholar attended this world assembly behalf of Tamil Annual Conference (TAC). The Assembly theme, ‘Arise and Shine for the Glory of God is Upon You’, inspired participants to renew their faith, embrace leadership opportunities and strengthen their ministry among women, families and communities worldwide.

The Assembly commenced with a warm and memorable welcome rooted in the traditions and culture of Aotearoa New Zealand. Participants were officially welcomed through a traditional Māori Pōwhiri, a ceremony symbolising hospitality, respect and the coming together of peoples from many nations. The ceremony acknowledged the indigenous heritage of New Zealand and set a spirit of unity and mutual respect for the Assembly. Special greetings were extended by the President of the Methodist Church of New Zealand and the world president welcomed participants from across the world and emphasised the importance of Christian fellowship, partnership and shared ministry.
One of the highlights of the opening session was the Procession of Area Banners, where representatives proudly carried banners representing their respective areas. The colourful procession served as a visual reminder of the Federation’s global reach and diversity, bringing together women from different cultures, languages and traditions under one shared faith.

The theme “Arise and Shine for the Glory of God is Upon You” (Isaiah 60:1) calls Methodist and Uniting Church women to rise in faith, courage and purpose, reflecting Christ’s light through their lives, leadership and service. It is a call to move from discouragement to hope, renewing our faith and shining God’s glory in our homes, churches, communities and the world.              Throughout the Assembly, the theme provided a strong foundation for worship, devotions, discussions and workshops. The Assembly also offered valuable opportunities for learning, networking and building relationships among women from different parts of the world. Through shared experiences, cultural presentations, worship and fellowship, participants gained a deeper appreciation of the diverse ministries and traditions within the Federation. The spirit of unity and sisterhood was especially evident as participants came together in prayer, worship and fellowship, celebrating their common faith while embracing their rich diversity.

This year, new World Officers were elected. Let us continue to pray for the World Federation of Methodist and Uniting Church Women, world officers and their ministries. May God lead, strengthen, and empower them as they faithfully carry out His work around the world.
